ASBESTOS BULK ANALYSIS BY POLARIZED LIGHT MICROSCOPY (PLM)
Method: EPA 600/R-93/116 and 40 CFR Appendix E to Subpart E of Part 763
Accreditation and Proficiency Testing: National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP Lab Code 600260)
Summary: Analysts dissect bulk building materials using a variety of techniques to extract and identify the components. A report is submitted to the customer detailing the components of the building materials, including asbestos, when present. The report notes the presence of asbestos and the percent asbestos type(s) present.
-
ASBESTOS AIR ANALYSIS BY PHASE CONTRAST MICROSCOPY (PCM)
Method: NIOSH 7400, Issue 3, 2019
Proficiency Testing: AIHA #221538
Summary: Analysts prepare air filters and calculate the amount of fibers present using the NIOSH 7400 methodology. All fibers are assumed to be asbestos. The test report gives the asbestos concentration for each sample in fibers per cubic centimeter (fi/cc). The laboratory can calculate 8-hour time weighted averages (8-hr TWA) for daily personal samples.

MOLD ANALYSIS: NON-VIABLE BY TAPE LIFT, WIPE, SWAB, AND SPORE-TRAP
Method: In-house
Proficiency Testing: AIHA #221538
Summary:
Tape Lift, Wipe and Swab – Analysts examine the sample and identify the types of mold spores present. The report shows the identity and the relative percentages of the main types of mold spore present.
Spore Trap – Analysts examine the spore trap surface and identify and count the spores that are present. The report lists each type of spore present, and the number of spores counted for each type present. Results show the concentration for each type of spore present, and the total concentration of spores in spores per cubic meter.

COMBUSTION BY-PRODUCT ANALYSIS OF TAPE LIFT, WIPE, SWAB, DUST AIR (MICROVAC/SPORE TRAP) USING POLARIZED LIGHT MICROSCOPY (PLM) AND REFLECTED LIGHT MICROSCOPY (RLM)
Method: ASTM D6602-13 (modified)
Proficiency Testing: In-house quality control
Summary: Analysts prepare samples and examine the contents for combustion by-product particles. The report identifies the presence of Soot, Char, Ash, and Opaque Non-combustion particles. A visual estimate of the percent of these components is reported to the customer. The report also defines the particles for the customer.
